Monday nights from 5pm – 6:30 pm
during school terms.

Cost: $25.00 per school term, which includes coaching and discount entry to the Southern Tasmanian Chess Championship.
For insurance reasons, membership to the adult club is required ($20 per year).

Children of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend.
Formal coaching is provided, as well as running a tournament each term.
Special activities are occasionally run such as lightning chess nights, guest speakers, simultaneous demonstrations and chess camps.
The adult club starts at 6:30pm, which is designed to encourage mentoring of young players and gives an opportunity for the stronger juniors to pit their skills against adult competition

24-25 Sep 2011: Tasmanian Junior Chess Championships

Venue: Princes Street Primary School
Under 18 and Under 12 will be run as separate events.
U18 Format: 6 games: 60mins + 10sec /move
U12 Format: 9 games: 25mins + 10sec /move

29 Aug 2011: Southern Junior Championships

Venue: Princes Street Primary School
Time: 10am - 4:30pm
Format: 7 games 15mins + 10sec /move

28 Feb 2011: Lightning Championship.

Open to all (adult and junior).
Congratulations to Neil Marcovitz and Kevin Bonham, who were tied for 1st place.
A full cross table may be found at the Hobart Club.

7 March 2011: Open Rapid Tournament

This is an open one-game-a-week swiss event for juniors and adults of all strength.
It is intended to run from 6:30-7:30 each Monday except public holidays until finished, with games starting as close to 6:30 as practical.
Players wishing to enter on the first night must be present at 6:15. Players who miss the first round can enter from round 2 or 3.
A flier with rules (eg what to do if you have to miss a round) will be available on the 28th and players can enter before the event starts if they wish.

14 March Public holiday. To be determined whether adult club will open.
21 March Open Rapid week 2
28 March Open Rapid week 3
4 April Open Rapid week 4
11 April Open Rapid week 5
18 April Open Rapid week 6
25 April Public holiday. Club not open this night
16 May Scheduled final round of Open Rapid

I hope the new format will be enjoyable - we have decided to start with a relatively light event and see how it goes.
The Club Championships will start later in the year.
